Even if VS was a full featured and working trial, you would not be able to import your file into it to edit. I have posted that the file did not import in X9U. The CC people's consumer editor also does not support the MXF file format. The special FX video editor supports MXF (DVCPro HD). The "fastest" one (I have last years) doesn't import it.

The German consumer editor does not even list it as a supported file format, but it's pro editor does. I tried your file in a few other editors I have on my computer, and only one editor was able to play it. Hey, you wrote the even Sony's own consumer editor does not support the camera fully. It "sucks" when it doesn't support a camera someone does have and they want the software. For the most part, their software does work with a wide variety of consumer cameras. This is something only they can answer as to what works. Also, I don't know about expired features that they have to pay to third party groups or not. I don't know what their margin of profit is or what their licensing agreements are.
I personally do not know what goes on behind the scenes in Corel. Thanks for testing this feature for me, I really appreciate the help I got from early adopters of X9! Corel is probably losing a lot of customers that way if people use the trial as the primary decision making tool. There is no way to evaluate the value of the software. It is really frustrating to have such a crippled trial version. Alas it looks like they are not playing in the same league. When they dropped MediaStudio and added the "Pro" at the end of VideoStudio, I was hoping that they would keep it at the same level as the other Pro offerings. I actually own MediaStudio Pro (for those who remember it), which was a Pro package and cost the same as other Pro software of today such as Premiere and Sony Vegas Pro (they support 10 bit) or FCP on the Mac. I've been a Corel/Ulead customer forever. Converting the file to 8 bit would do the trick, but then again you can switch the format in the camera and record in 8 bit to avoid any conversion. I tried Sony's own MovieStudio without success either. I think that you are right, it is the 10 bit processing that is missing in X9. I don't think that processing 10bits is in the scope of 100$ X9.
